SO, now Freeview have joined the party and are set to launch a new internet TV service with the help of digital UK. This is being viewed as the next generation service that Freeview will need to keep up with the rest of the herd. For viewers to be able to receive this service, they would need to purchase either a new set top Freeview receiver or a new digital TV as current digital receivers and TV’s don’t currently have the ability to view this service.

The new service will be developed in partnership with Digital UK and give viewers easy access to broadcast and on-demand TV, including a range of popular catch-up players.

It will compete against similar offerings from Freesat and YouView, both of which offer subscription-free internet-connected boxes and are also backed by the BBC and ITV.

It really was only a matter of time before Freeview terrestrial Television services branched out into the internet aspect of the industry. Catchup TV is becoming more and more a part of our everyday viewing habits and if Freeview don’t want to be left behind this new service is long over due!
